Siphonic roof drains, installed on flat roof buildings, looks like a traditional roof drain with the addition of an air baffle, which
prevents air entering the piping system at peak flows.
In a siphonic drainage system, the roof drain baffle allows and sustains negative atmospheric pressure in the connected piping
and inhibits the admission of air into the piping system, hence sustaining full-bore flow and higher flow volumes and velocities.

Siphonic Roof Drains and Rainwater Harvesting |
| Siphonic roof drains and rainwater harvesting systems work well together for a large commercial building. Siphonic drain
systems ensure rooftop rainwater is diverted effectively and efficiently to a rainwater collection tank.
Siphonic drain systems drain to a single discharge point. A rainwater harvesting system installed at this discharge point
will collect the rooftop runoff and supply water in and around the larger commercial building.
Siphonic drains systems utilize minimum materials as piping diameters are smaller than traditional drain systems. Utilizing
less materials and recycling rainwater both address sustainable building design principles.
The materials cost savings associated with a siphonic drain system can offset the cost of a rainwater harvesting systems, which will
pay for itself over the years |
